Coaching Philosophy:
I feel that any student can find success in whatever event they put their mind and, more importantly, effort into. I want students to embrace challenge and overcome it using their external and internal resources, as the benefits of this activity are rooted in open-mindedness and transparency. This also includes asking for help when needed. I would not be in my position in life if Speech and Debate did not give me the tools to empower myself, and be an advocate for myself and the issues I have an interest in. This is what I want to impress on my students, and have them take into their lives both in and out of the activity

Short Bio: Over the last 15 years, Andrew Moffitt has been contributing to the speech and debate community through competition and coaching. I am an alumnus of Wichita Northwest High School, where I competed from 2003-2007 in Policy Debate, Student Congress, Foreign Extemp, Impromptu, and Humorous Interp. During this time, I advanced to finals numerous times in these events, including a state tournament qualification in 2007 in FX. My college career began in earnest at Kansas Wesleyan University under Gary Harmon, who was inducted into the NSDA Hall of Fame in 2002 for his efforts in the high school community. I competed in NPDA and IPDA-format Debate, Extemp, Impromptu, Informative, Persuasive, Poetry, Program Oral Interp, and Duo during my time at KWU, earning numerous awards including out rounds appearances at the Pi Kappa Delta and National Christian College Championship tournaments. I also worked extensively with the Kansas high school Speech and Debate community during this time, including as a camp leader during the Heart of America Debate Camp for 3 years.
My coaching career began in 2012 at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where I headed the program’s World Universities squad and grew the teams Interp and LP component before I graduated with my M.A. in Public Service. Over the last three years, I served as Director of Forensics at Concordia University, Nebraska, and have built the team from 4 competitors to over 30 in the last three years, earning the team a top 40 in the nation ranking from the National Forensic Association. Now that I have moved away from that position into the private sector, I still want to use my skills to help empower students and teams to not only succeed competitively, but also as advocates for the issues and challenges they face on a daily basis.
